Key Guitar
Eric is a multi-instrumentalist
who has been inspired by Molokai - "I heard the island
speak to me".
Since he began to play his first instrument, the drums,
at age 7, Eric has gone on to master the guitar, fiddle,
mandolin, and Dobro (a resonator guitar). His parents encouraged
him to become a vocalist in order to round out the sound
of their family bluegrass band. On this solo guitar album,
his music is an interesting fusion of slack key and other
genres.
Eric went on to perform with such prominent musicians as
Kate Wolf, Bonnie Raitt and the It's a Beautiful Day Band.
He has recorded several solo albums and performed on dozens
more. One of his most recent is with Merrell Fankhauser.
Eric toured ten years with the Wild Sage Band and was featured
in a major motion picture.
He has been encouraged and inspired by the warmth and spirit
of Molokai's musicians including Eddie Tanaka, Lono, DJ
Pelekai, Willie Aki, Keli'i Mawae and others. He spent many
an enjoyable Sunday playing with the beloved Ohana Hoaloha
at Coffees of Hawaii. This album is Eric's way of giving
back to the community that has given him so much peace and
aloha.
